Features of Hispanic Culture

There are many generalizations and stereotypes when it comes to examining Hispanic culture, but one should know that sometimes, those sweeping generalizations are based on truth, inspired by the acts of majority of Hispanics encountered in the United States. One should remember, however, that some of these characteristics stem from the deep-rooted traditions of Spain, and thus, they should be accepted, tolerated and celebrated, rather than discriminated against and laughed at.

To Hispanics, physical contact is important, and personal space is closer. Hispanic people do not mind coming into close contact with each other, even as acquaintances, as shown when they kiss each other on the cheek. That is a well-known greeting among Hispanics. Also, it is said that they tend to be pessimists, and are always concerned about their appearance. This is true for most, but there are always exceptions.

Some habits most Hispanics share are as follows: they are more spiritual in nature, their homes are extremely decorative and have many ornaments, they like brand names and they hold the United States in high esteem. Based on that list, it can already be seen that the Hispanic is proud of his or her culture, but very accepting and grateful when living in America. Brand names are important to Hispanics, who consider anything made in the US a high quality item. Very accepting of other people’s beliefs, the typical Hispanic is not one that is easily hated. Discriminating against their culture would be unnecessary and unjustified no matter what the reason.
