About Hispanic Culture

Hispanics are considered a specific group because like every ethnic group worldwide, each race has its own sub-groups. Thus, the Hispanics are unique in their own way among the Latino sub-groups, developing traditions and adopting aspects of culture, some of which they have retained since the colonial Spanish era, and sometimes overlap with other Hispanic cultures.

Hispanics are known for their conservative nature. First off, the Latino male has a certain feature referred to as the “machismo”, which is much different from other cultural lifestyles. Latino and Latina immigrants in the United States especially exhibit these kinds of traits. However, the Latino never stops missing his country of origin.

The Hispanic community in the US maintains its traditions but also manages to adapt to the extremely different culture of Americans. Today, Hispanics are becoming more prominent in American society, being established in both infrastructure and politics. Because of the shared nostalgia of Hispanics, they see themselves as a united group with a shared culture. The behaviors and aspirations of each community are based on their experiences while growing up in the States.

Just like in every culture, there are some misconceptions involving Hispanics. One of the most popular ones is that all Hispanics speak Spanish. This is not true, especially considering the fact that most Hispanics now are born in the States and thus grow up as American citizens. Also, discrimination also exists in the Hispanic community, showing that all cultures have their own similarities and differences.
